Vietnam Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Van Thang attended the Dien Bien Province Investment Promotion Conference 2026, where the province approved several major investment projects and signed multiple cooperation agreements aimed at transforming Dien Bien into a new center for tourism, infrastructure and green economic development. The conference brought together more than 1,200 delegates, including diplomats, government officials, business leaders and international investors from countries such as Thailand, France, China, Japan, South Korea and Laos.
During the event, Dien Bien province granted investment approvals and certificates for several projects worth more than 48 trillion Vietnamese dong. Authorities also signed dozens of Memorandums of Understanding with investors, with total pledged investment capital exceeding 209 trillion Vietnamese dong. Officials described these projects as the “pink bricks” that would build the foundation for the province’s future economic breakthrough and long-term development.
Speaking at the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Van Thang praised Dien Bien for aggressively improving its investment climate through administrative reforms and the introduction of a special “green channel” system. The province has promised to shorten approval and administrative processing times for priority projects by up to 70 to 90 percent. According to the Deputy Prime Minister, this demonstrates a strong commitment to creating a transparent and investor-friendly business environment.
Leaders highlighted Dien Bien’s major strengths, including its famous historical connection to the Dien Bien Phu battlefield, its strategic border position with both China and Laos, and its rich tourism and renewable energy potential. Officials also noted the province’s large number of natural hot mineral springs, opportunities for wind and solar energy development, and strong potential for high-tech agriculture and border trade expansion.
The conference also focused heavily on tourism and urban development projects. One of the biggest announcements was the launch of a massive 228-hectare urban, tourism and sports development project by Vingroup in Dien Bien Phu. The project will include residential zones, resorts, commercial spaces, schools, healthcare facilities and an 18-hole golf course designed to blend with the natural landscape of the northwest region. The mega project is expected to accommodate around 12,000 residents and significantly boost tourism and economic activity in the province.
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Van Thang stressed that economic growth must remain sustainable and environmentally responsible. He urged local authorities and investors to preserve cultural identity, protect the environment and ensure development benefits local communities. He also emphasized that projects should move quickly from agreements on paper to real construction and economic results that create jobs and improve living standards for residents.
Vietnam’s central government pledged continued support for Dien Bien’s long-term development strategy, including infrastructure projects such as expressways and border connectivity initiatives. Officials believe the province has the potential to become a major economic and tourism gateway in northwestern Vietnam while contributing to the country’s broader goals of green growth, modernization and regional integration.
