American tennis star Coco Gauff continued her impressive run in the 2025 Wuhan Open by defeating Italy’s Jasmine Paolini 6-4, 6-3 on Saturday to secure a place in the final. This marks Gauff’s third WTA 1000 final of the year, highlighting her consistent performance on the tour.
In the first set, both players held their serves in the opening five games before engaging in a series of service breaks, with Gauff ultimately taking the set 6-4. The second set mirrored the intensity of the first. Paolini initially broke Gauff’s serve to take a 3-2 lead, but Gauff immediately responded with another break.
Gauff held her serve for the first time in the second set at 4-3, then broke Paolini again and served out the match to secure victory. With this win, she will face either world number one Aryna Sabalenka or American Jessica Pegula in the final on Sunday.
Reflecting on her performance, Gauff said, “I’m really happy with how I played today. It was tough, especially with the serving exchanges, but I did what I needed to get through. Sabalenka and Pegula are great players, and I’ve lost to both before, but I’ll focus on my side of the court and control what I can.”
Gauff’s consistent form this season has cemented her status as one of the rising stars in women’s tennis, and her performance at Wuhan further strengthens her reputation as a strong contender in major tournaments.
