China announced on Friday that it is imposing sanctions on 20 American defense companies and 10 senior executives in response to the recent US approval of a large arms sale to Taiwan. Beijing condemned the US decision, stating it violates the “one-China principle” and the key agreements between China and the United States.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry made clear that this move is in accordance with China’s Anti-Foreign Sanctions Law and will take effect immediately. The ministry warned that any party involved in arms sales to Taiwan will face severe consequences. China views these arms sales as interference in its internal affairs and a threat to its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Among the companies targeted by the sanctions are Northrop Grumman Systems Corporation, L3Harris Maritime Services, Boeing in St. Louis, Gibbs & Cox, Advanced Acoustic Concepts, VSE Corporation, Sierra Technical Services, and others. Under the sanctions, all movable and immovable assets of these companies located within China will be frozen. Furthermore, Chinese organizations and individuals are prohibited from conducting business or cooperation with the sanctioned firms.
The sanctions also extend to 10 senior executives, including Palmer Luckey, founder of Anduril Industries, along with top officials from L3Harris, VSE Corporation, and more. These individuals will face asset restrictions and limitations on activities related to China.
This reaction follows the US government's approval of a major arms package to Taiwan valued at over $11 billion. The package includes medium-range missiles, howitzers, drones, HIMARS rocket systems, anti-tank missiles, and other advanced weaponry. Taiwan has incorporated five of these arms packages into a special defense budget worth approximately $39.85 billion, which is currently awaiting approval by the Taiwanese legislature.
China emphasized that no nation or individual should underestimate its determination and ability to safeguard national sovereignty. The Chinese government vowed to respond firmly to any provocations regarding Taiwan.
