Bollywood actress Bhumi Pednekar, known for breaking stereotypes and celebrating real bodies on screen, recently spoke candidly about her journey with body image, fitness, and dealing with online trolls. Bhumi shared her personal experiences and insights, highlighting that self-love and mental well-being are as important as physical fitness.
Bhumi first entered the Hindi film industry with the hit movie Dum Laga Ke Haisha, where she weighed around 100 kilograms. Her bold entry and confident performance challenged conventional beauty standards in Bollywood and won her praise from audiences and critics alike. Since then, she has undergone a remarkable physical transformation while remaining vocal about the challenges of body image and self-acceptance.
Talking about her fitness journey, Bhumi admitted, “I feel that doesn't ever go right. That’s because we have grown up in an environment where we were subjected to different kinds of comments. But you have to learn to love yourself, and that's a process.” She emphasized that even though she has come a long way, there are still days when she feels heartbroken or insecure.
For Bhumi, fitness is not just about appearances. She explained, “It has taken me a lot of time, and I still have days where I feel heartbroken about things. But the point is that I have a routine that keeps me in check. For me, physical health is also about mental health. It’s just not about how you look externally.” The actress stressed the importance of internal well-being and mental clarity, saying that activities like running or walking help her stay grounded and focused.
When asked about her definition of fitness, Bhumi said, “Fitness is just loving yourself. There's nothing more to it. If you love yourself, you will be fit.” Her remarks underline a growing trend in Bollywood where mental health and self-love are being prioritized alongside physical transformation.
Despite her confident outlook, Bhumi admitted that dealing with public scrutiny and trolls remains a part of her life. “Well, the thing is that I have seen both ends of the spectrum. There was a time when I was 96 kg, and there were opinions then. Now, I look different, and there are opinions now,” she said. However, the actress made it clear that she does not let criticism affect her choices. “The point is that I'm in the public eye and it's okay. I am for the audience. Everything that they say I listen to, but by the end of it, I do what's right for me,” Bhumi added.
Bhumi’s honesty about her struggles and victories with body image has resonated with many fans, inspiring conversations about self-acceptance and the pressures faced by women in the public eye.
On the work front, Bhumi hinted at a busy schedule ahead, though she could not reveal specifics about her upcoming projects. “There are a lot of things, but they haven't been announced yet, but next year you will see me onscreen 3 or 4 times,” she revealed, promising an exciting year for her fans.
The actress, who was last seen in the Netflix web series The Royals alongside Ishaan Khatter, continues to set an example of resilience, self-love, and dedication, showing that true fitness extends far beyond the physical form.
Bhumi Pednekar’s journey, from challenging stereotypes to embracing self-love while facing public scrutiny, serves as a reminder that confidence, mental clarity, and self-care are the ultimate markers of health and happiness.
