Actor Arjun Kapoor candidly discussed his experiences with mental health, weight struggles, and the challenges of sudden fame during his session at the FICCI Young Leaders Summit in Mumbai. He highlighted the importance of normalizing therapy and seeing vulnerability as a form of strength.
Arjun Kapoor Reflects on His Challenges
Arjun shared that the COVID-19 pandemic was a pivotal moment for him. It made him confront the fact that he had overlooked his mental and physical health for almost a decade. “I began therapy after realizing I hadn’t cared for myself in ten years,” he revealed.
He also reminisced about personal grief, recalling the heartache of losing his mother, Mona Shourie Kapoor, in 2012, just ahead of his film debut with Ishaqzaade. “I was both mourning and celebrating at once; although I became a star overnight, I was just running from my pain,” he confessed.
His Fitness Journey
Arjun elaborated on his extensive fitness journey, stating, “It took me four years to lose 50 kilos. It was a mental and physical challenge combined.” He attributed his emotional strength to his late mother, saying, “Losing your foundation at 25 makes you question what the world can throw at you.”
Advocating for Therapy and Emotional Strength
Encouraging younger audiences to prioritize mental wellness, Arjun emphasized the importance of seeking therapy. “There’s strength in being vulnerable. The most resilient individuals are those who can express their emotions,” he stated, describing therapy as a “safe space for expression that fosters empowerment and clarity.”
Concluding his address, Arjun advised the audience to “embrace their emotions unapologetically” and to view vulnerability as a form of courage. “You can express your emotions and still be strong,” he affirmed.
Most recently, Arjun Kapoor starred in Mere Husband Ki Biwi, which earned approximately ₹6.75 crore globally. He is set to appear next in No Entry 2.
