Apple Poised to Overtake Samsung with Surging iPhone 17 Sales in 2025

Apple Poised to Overtake Samsung with Surging iPhone 17 Sales in 2025

Post by : Badri Ariffin

Apple Inc. is gearing up to reclaim its title as the world’s leading smartphone manufacturer by 2025, backed by an overwhelming response to the newly launched iPhone 17 series alongside a significant global upgrade wave.

This momentum represents a pivotal change in the smartphone landscape, where Samsung has dominated for over a decade. According to Counterpoint Research, Apple’s latest offerings have not only rejuvenated demand in established markets but also spurred growth in emerging areas.

The iPhone 17 range—comprising four distinct models—has seen an impressive influx of customers at Apple Stores, with the ultra-slim iPhone Air attracting notable attention. High foot traffic was reported in the United States and China, contributing to double-digit year-over-year sales increases in these vital markets.

Apple further benefits from thawing US-China trade relations and a declining dollar, which have bolstered sales in various developing regions. Analysts point out that a significant segment of consumers who purchased smartphones during the pandemic are now ready for upgrades, amplifying Apple’s growth.

Industry projections suggest a 10% increase in iPhone shipments by 2025, in contrast to a 4.6% growth forecast for Samsung. Should this trend continue, Apple is anticipated to capture 19.4% of the global smartphone market—the highest in several years—positioning it for the top rank for the first time since 2011.

Experts also emphasize the growing impact of the secondhand iPhone market. Nearly 358 million used iPhones were sold between 2023 and mid-2025, establishing a substantial base of users likely to consider upgrades to newer models in the near future.

Looking ahead, Apple plans to expand its portfolio. A foldable iPhone and a budget-friendly iPhone 17e are expected in 2026, followed by a significant redesign in 2027. Industry analysts believe these innovations could help Apple maintain its upward trajectory even amidst escalating global competition.

With the iPhone 17 series exceeding sales projections and ushering in a new growth phase in the market, Apple seems on the brink of reclaiming its global smartphone leadership—a goal it has pursued for over ten years.
