Renowned filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has been vocal about censorship in Indian cinema, but during a recent conversation with Komal Nahta on his podcast, he disclosed a shift in his perspective.
Anurag expressed, “My opinion on censorship has significantly shifted. When I approached the censor board for my film's certification, I discovered that it wasn’t as daunting as I'd imagined. I had previously criticized censorship publicly, but my interaction with the board members was surprisingly positive. They were friendly and appeared amused that my film lacked violence or offensive content, asking me why I often challenge the notions of compromise and capitalism.”
He elaborated that the censor board shared their reasoning too. “They kindly explained that they are merely adhering to existing rules and guidelines. If changes are necessary, it’s essential for filmmakers to unite and advocate for those changes,” he stated.
While Anurag did not specify which film he referred to, his recent project, Nishaanchi, featuring Aaishvary Thackeray, Vedika Pinto, and Monika Panwar, premiered on September 19.
