In a significant development for AI infrastructure, Saudi Arabia is poised to become a prime destination for advanced computing as tech leaders AMD, Cisco, and local innovator Humain unveil their collaboration to establish high-capacity data centers. The flagship project will feature a robust 100 megawatts, exclusively serving Luma AI, a generative AI video startup securing the full initial output.
Under this partnership, Cisco will deliver networking solutions, while AMD contributes its cutting-edge MI450 AI chips. Humain, supported by the kingdom’s sovereign wealth fund, will spearhead the project, ensuring seamless execution. Construction is set to commence in 2026, with the promise of 100% renewable energy powering the operations.
This collaboration originated from a series of tech agreements forged during US President Donald Trump’s Riyadh visit in May, and additional alliances are anticipated as Saudi and US officials reconvene this week. AMD and Cisco will function as minority stakeholders, sharing in both revenue and operational responsibilities while offering technological guidance.
Humain aims to broaden the project's reach into markets across Asia, Europe, India, the Middle East, and Africa, targeting an expanse of nearly 4.5 billion individuals. Plans are already underway to escalate the data center capacity to an impressive 1 gigawatt by 2030, with numerous purchase orders in the pipeline for future ventures.
This initiative strategically positions Saudi Arabia within the global AI infrastructure landscape, capitalizing on its vast land, low-cost energy resources, and strategic international partnerships to develop a state-of-the-art data ecosystem.
