A late-season Alberta clipper is projected to bring heavy snowfall and unpredictable weather to parts of Manitoba, prompting Environment Canada to issue snowfall warnings and special weather advisories before the storm’s arrival.
The storm is anticipated to start impacting the western and central regions late Tuesday, progressively making its way across the province into Wednesday and early Thursday. According to Environment Canada, certain areas may see snow accumulation between 15 to 20 centimeters, especially in central Manitoba. These conditions fall under a yellow-level warning, indicating the possibility of hazardous weather that may disrupt travel.
The snowfall warning encompasses a vast area, from northern locations such as Dawson Bay to southern destinations like Winnipeg, extending across the province from west to east. Towns like Dauphin and Gimli are also expected to experience impacts as the system passes through.
Officials urge residents to be prepared for swiftly changing weather conditions along roads and highways. Snow accumulation could create slippery surfaces, impaired visibility, and challenging travel circumstances. There is also a chance of minor power outages due to the combination of snow and wind in several locales.
Alongside the snowfall alerts, special weather statements have been issued for southern Manitoba, including major cities like Winnipeg and Brandon. These statements highlight the unpredictability of the storm's development in southern areas, where temperatures are expected to linger near the freezing mark. Consequently, some regions—especially those adjacent to the Trans-Canada Highway—might experience a mix of snow and rain, potentially reducing total snow accumulation.
Weather analysts indicate that snowfall totals might fluctuate as the system evolves, and warnings could be expanded further south based on temperature changes. Residents are advised to remain informed with updated forecasts and take precautionary steps while traveling during the storm.
This late-season weather phenomenon underscores that winter can still affect parts of Canada even as spring approaches, necessitating ongoing vigilance and preparedness.
