In North Darfur, an estimated 10,000 people fled al-Fashir after the city fell last week to the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. Many survivors have reached the nearby town of Tawila seeking protection and medical attention.
At a clinic run by an international aid organisation, patients spoke of traumatic escapes from the fighting in al-Fashir. Medical teams report treating dozens of children with severe malnutrition and men with wounds that require surgical care.
The influx of displaced families has placed intense strain on local health facilities. Staff are stretched but continue to provide emergency wound care, nutritional support and urgent operations where needed.
Aid workers warn the situation could deteriorate quickly unless humanitarian assistance reaches the area without delay. The new arrivals underline rising instability in North Darfur and the immediate need for international support to protect civilians and sustain essential services.
The mass displacement is part of a broader humanitarian emergency in Sudan, where ongoing conflict forces thousands from their homes and increases risks of malnutrition, disease and injury.
