The 17th Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship marked a significant moment on Thursday with the commencement of the country qualifier rounds for purple, brown, and black belt athletes across various weight classes. This opening phase witnessed elite fighters from around the globe contending fiercely for limited slots in the main brackets and upcoming finals.
The qualifiers are characterized by stringent competition. Only two athletes from each nation can progress in any weight class if they are competing under the same belt level. This approach ensures fairness and allows only the premier athletes from each country to advance. The finals for the purple and brown belts are slated for Friday, while the climactic black belt finals will take place on Saturday.
Mohammed bin Dalmouj Al Dhaheri, a Board Member of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, noted that the professional category is undeniably the tournament's highlight. He highlighted how it displays the pinnacle of Jiu-Jitsu skills, technique, and strategy. Al Dhaheri shared that Thursday's qualifiers showcased immense strength and tactical prowess, with impressive speed and precision on display. He emphasized that competitors, particularly in the black belt division, must remain fully focused due to the high caliber of competition.
Al Dhaheri further stated that the qualifier system underscores the championship's global significance. It provides opportunities for athletes from many nations to compete and progress, thereby enhancing the overall competition level. He stressed how this system encourages athletes to continue their improvement and dedication toward reaching the tournament's main stages.
The UAE team excelled during the qualifiers, earning numerous spots for the subsequent rounds. Al Dhaheri remarked that these results reflect the advancements in local training initiatives and affirm that Emirati athletes are ready for elite international competition.
A standout Emirati contender was Faisal Alwahedi from Baniyas Club, who successfully progressed to the purple belt 69 kg main bracket qualifiers. Alwahedi expressed his joy, describing this achievement as a pivotal moment in his athletic journey. He acknowledged the challenges of the matches, which required total concentration, yet credited his recent preparations for fostering his confidence. He expressed his ambition for the gold medal and his commitment to analyzing his opponents for optimum performance.
Another noteworthy participant was Russian competitor Eduard Dimura from the ZR Team International. Competing in the professional black belt 94 kg category, he hailed the championship as a unique event charged with energy. The enthusiastic audience, he noted, serves as strong motivation for athletes, reinforcing that the championship draws elite competitors from diverse clubs and academies worldwide. Dimura shared that his extensive training over the past months has equipped him physically and technically to perform at his best.
The competition continues on Friday with the finals for the purple and brown belts and the black belt qualifier rounds, culminating in the professional black belt finals on Saturday evening at 6 PM. The event will conclude on Sunday with the Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Awards ceremony honoring the season's top performers.
Once again, this year's championship reiterates why the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship stands as one of the most esteemed and global martial arts events, attracting exceptional talent from all corners of the world.
