The World Free Zones Organization (World FZO), based in Dubai, has unveiled plans for its 12th annual World Congress, scheduled for May 12 to 14, 2026, in the vibrant Panama City. More than 1,500 influential policymakers and executives from free zones worldwide are expected to converge for this landmark event.
Panama's President, José Raúl Mulino, will officiate the Congress's opening, alongside prominent figures like Bernardo Arévalo de León and Luis Abinader. The gathering anticipates the presence of over 20 ministers and high-ranking government officials, along with global representatives from major international organizations.
Notable attendees include Gerd Müller from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, Wamkele Mene from the African Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat, and other distinguished leaders from global trade organizations.
Under the theme, “Free Zones in the New Global Operating Model: Challenges and Opportunities,” the Congress aims to address how economic zones can propel trade, investment, and sustainable development. Essential topics include digital transformation, innovation, and sustainability.
This gathering is organized in collaboration with the Government of Panama, emphasizing the nation’s strategic position as a leading trade and logistics hub in the Americas.
Dr. Mohammed Al Zarooni, Chairman of World FZO, remarked on the organization's evolution into a preeminent platform for economic zones after its Dubai inception. He emphasized the importance of the Congress in influencing trade strategies and fostering sustainable economic practices.
Highlighting the need for innovation, digital advancements, and collaborative efforts, Dr. Al Zarooni noted that the Congress would serve as a vital forum for policy dialogue, knowledge exchange, and partnership development.
The itinerary includes ministerial roundtables, leadership discussions, and panels focused on regional cooperation and green industrial strategies. Special sessions will delve into cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence and digital trade systems.
Additionally, sessions like leadership programmes, investor meetups, and networking gatherings will be conducted to foster collaboration and investment potential.
The World Free Zones Organization acts as a facilitator for free zones, special economic zones, and industrial parks while connecting government and business leaders to bolster global trade, innovation, and sustainable economic growth.
