Vietnam Prime Minister Le Minh Hung has declared science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation as the main pillars for the country’s future development and economic growth during a major national conference held in Hanoi.
The Prime Minister attended the ceremony celebrating Vietnam Science, Technology and Innovation Day along with the Conference on the Implementation of Strategic Technologies on May 18, 2026. The event brought together government leaders, scientists, businesses, universities, and international representatives.
Speaking at the conference, Le Minh Hung said Vietnam must gradually master strategic technologies to strengthen national self-reliance and improve competitiveness in the rapidly changing global economy. He described science and technology as the “golden key” for achieving the country’s long-term development goals.
The conference focused on implementing Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW and promoting strategic technologies under new government policies. Officials emphasized that technological innovation and digital transformation would become the foundation of Vietnam’s new economic growth model.
Prime Minister Hung stressed that strategic technology development must create practical products with real commercial value, strong localization rates, and the ability to improve labor productivity. He said businesses, universities, and research institutes should play central roles in the innovation ecosystem.
The government also called for stronger international cooperation, technology transfer from foreign investors, and the development of highly skilled human resources. Authorities said special attention would be given to training young scientists, AI experts, and technology professionals.
During the conference, Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan announced plans to reorganize 42 national science and technology programs into six major national programs to improve efficiency and resource management.
Several organizations presented projects during the event, including research on artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, biotechnology, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and digital identification systems aimed at strengthening Vietnam’s technological independence.
Prime Minister Le Minh Hung concluded by calling on scientists, entrepreneurs, and technology companies to continue promoting innovation and contribute toward building a prosperous and technologically advanced Vietnam in the coming decades.
