Vietnam’s government has officially appointed Nguyen Huy Dung as the new Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism during a high-level ceremony held in Hanoi. The appointment was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra on behalf of Prime Minister authorities.
The appointment decision, signed on May 21, 2026, places Nguyen Huy Dung in a key leadership role as Vietnam pushes forward with large-scale reforms focused on digital transformation, innovation and modernization in the culture and tourism sectors. Officials described the move as part of a broader strategy to inject younger leadership and technological expertise into national governance.
During the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra praised Nguyen Huy Dung’s experience and contributions in science, technology and digital transformation. She stated that his leadership is expected to create fresh momentum for the ministry as Vietnam enters a new phase of economic and cultural development.
Government leaders emphasized that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism now carries an increasingly important responsibility in strengthening national identity while also driving economic growth through tourism, digital innovation and cultural development. Authorities highlighted that culture should become not only a national value but also a strategic resource for sustainable development.
The Deputy Prime Minister also urged the ministry to accelerate digital transformation across all sectors including tourism management, sports administration, family services and media governance. Officials said Vietnam aims to modernize public administration systems and develop specialized digital databases to improve efficiency and service delivery.
According to the government, the ministry has several major tasks to complete under national reform plans linked to science, technology and innovation policies. Authorities stressed that implementing digital transformation effectively will be critical for achieving future growth targets and enhancing Vietnam’s international competitiveness.
Nguyen Huy Dung, in his acceptance speech, thanked the Communist Party, the government and national leadership for their trust and support. He pledged to work closely with ministry leaders and contribute to preserving Vietnam’s cultural heritage while modernizing the sector through innovation and technology-driven governance.
Born in 1983 in Hanoi, Nguyen Huy Dung holds a Master’s degree in Information Technology and has previously served as Deputy Minister of Information and Communications. He also held leadership roles in cybersecurity, digital transformation and provincial administration before taking up his new position in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
