Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the Women’s Race marked the successful 10th edition of the Al Salam Cycling Championship.
The 93 km race drew elite female cyclists from both the UAE and abroad, featuring an impressive prize pool of AED 460,000. The event unfolded in the picturesque Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve, offering a competitive atmosphere.
Lorena Wiebes of Dubai Police/Esaad showcased a strategic and powerful performance to clinch the top spot, taking home AED 100,000. In second place was teammate Femke Markus, awarded AED 70,000, while Nina Kessler of Dubai Residence Cycling Club A secured the third position with a prize of AED 50,000.
In the team division, Dubai Police/Esaad took first place, while Dubai Residence Cycling Club A and B followed in second and third, respectively.
In the Emirati Women’s Over-40 section, Mouza Al Mansoori triumphed, and Yulia Polevaya from Airwerks Team 1 led the Open Women’s Over-40 category.
The race commenced at Al Qudra Endurance Village and passed several iconic landmarks before concluding in the Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve. The event was widely broadcast on various television and digital platforms.
The flag-off was executed by Mohammed Al-Mousa, a member of the Supreme Organising Committee and Chairman of the Technical Committee.
Omair bin Juma Al Falasi, Director General of the Private Office of the Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Supreme Organising Committee, expressed gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for his unwavering support. He commended the robust involvement of women and emphasized the championship's aim to inspire more athletes in future events.
He also noted that two of the races in this 10th edition are exclusively for women, reflecting Dubai's commitment to empowering female athletes.
The Al Salam Cycling Championship enjoys the support of strategic partners such as Dubai Police, Dubai Municipality, Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Sports Council, Government of Dubai Media Office, UAE Cycling Federation, and Dubai Sports Channel.
Desert races for both men and women are scheduled for 31 January and 1 February, with further details about another upcoming race to be announced soon.
