Meta is gearing up to pilot premium subscription models across its key social media platforms — Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp. The announcement was made to TechCrunch on January 26, 2026. This initiative aims to lessen reliance on advertising and foster a steady revenue stream for Meta.
The new subscription offerings will include distinct features aimed at fostering productivity, creativity, and enhanced AI tools. Users will still have access to free versions of all applications.
Each platform will feature its own specific paid offerings rather than a combined subscription option. Early insights regarding Instagram suggest potential perks such as unlimited audience lists, the option to check who’s not following back, and the ability to view Stories discreetly.
Additionally, Meta plans to incorporate its newly acquired Manus AI technology into these subscription models, exploring premium access to AI solutions like Vibes, an advanced video creation platform.
While details for Facebook and WhatsApp remain sparse, reports hint that WhatsApp might provide an ad-free experience within sections like Status and Channels. Enhanced controls and features are also being tested for premium users.
The rollout of subscription tests is set to begin in the upcoming months, with adjustments made in response to user feedback. This development aligns with a broader trend among social media platforms, such as Snapchat, which has already launched premium offerings.
