UAE Leaders Offer Condolences After Passing of Former US Vice President Dick Cheney

Post by : Rameen Ariff

Abu Dhabi, November 5, 2025 – His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan conveyed official condolences to the family of former US Vice President Dick Cheney, who died on Monday at the age of 84.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, as well as His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court, similarly extended messages of sympathy to Cheney’s relatives.

Cheney’s family announced he passed away on Monday night, citing complications from pneumonia alongside pre-existing cardiac and vascular conditions. He was 84 years old.

Dick Cheney held the office of Vice President of the United States from 2001 to 2009 under President George W. Bush. Widely regarded as a powerful and influential figure within the administration, he championed a strong executive branch and played a pivotal role in shaping the US-led decision to invade Iraq in 2003.

Cheney’s death closes the chapter on a consequential and often divisive career in American public life. The official messages from UAE leaders underscore both recognition of his global political footprint and the diplomatic ties between the United States and the United Arab Emirates.
