UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in Abu Dhabi to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and addressing key regional developments.
The meeting took place during Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s working visit to the UAE. Both leaders reviewed ways to expand cooperation between the two countries, particularly in economic, trade and development sectors, while exploring new opportunities that could enhance mutual interests and support prosperity for both nations.
The UAE and Ethiopia have built strong economic ties in recent years, with the UAE emerging as one of Ethiopia’s key investment partners. Emirati investments have been directed toward infrastructure, logistics, agriculture and renewable energy projects, contributing to Ethiopia’s economic development and strengthening cooperation between the Gulf and East Africa.
During the talks, the leaders also exchanged views on ongoing developments in the Middle East and the wider region. Rising military tensions and their potential impact on regional and international stability were discussed, with both sides emphasizing the need to prevent further escalation.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed condemned attacks targeting countries in the Gulf region, including the UAE, stating that such actions violate state sovereignty and international law. He reaffirmed Ethiopia’s solidarity with the UAE and its support for efforts to safeguard national security and protect the country’s territorial integrity.
President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed expressed appreciation for Ethiopia’s supportive position and stressed the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving conflicts and maintaining regional peace.
The UAE president also extended condolences to Ethiopia following severe floods and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in southern parts of the country, which caused casualties and significant damage. He reaffirmed the UAE’s solidarity with the Ethiopian people during this difficult time.
Both leaders concluded the meeting by emphasizing the importance of diplomatic engagement and cooperation to address regional challenges and maintain stability. They also called for constructive dialogue to resolve disputes and prevent further tensions in the region while strengthening partnerships that support sustainable development and economic growth.
