His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and President Lee Jae-myung of South Korea met for formal discussions today aimed at deepening the Special Strategic Partnership and Comprehensive Economic Partnership between their nations. The dialogue took place at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi during President Lee’s official visit to the UAE.
Upon welcoming the Korean leader, Sheikh Mohamed emphasized his optimism that the visit would reinforce the ties between the UAE and South Korea, fostering a shared vision for sustainable growth and prosperity. Their discussions revolved around enhancing cooperation in key sectors such as trade, economy, investment, and renewable energy.
Both leaders explored potential collaborations in technology, artificial intelligence, renewable resources, education, and culture. They delved into strategies for aligning their developmental priorities, while also addressing regional and global issues, particularly the need for peace and stability in the Middle East.
Sheikh Mohamed highlighted the solid foundation of trust and mutual respect that characterizes UAE-Korea relations and reaffirmed the UAE’s dedication to further strengthening economic and trade ties, aiming for a progressive partnership with Korea. The signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in 2024 was noted as a pivotal element in enhancing economic cooperation, potentially opening new avenues for trade and investments.
He acknowledged Korea as one of the UAE’s principal trade partners, celebrating the advancements made between the two nations in recent years, and underscored the necessity of forming growth-driven partnerships with like-minded countries committed to sustainable development.
President Lee Jae-myung commended the robust relationship between the two nations and their mutual dedication to broadening cooperation. He recognized the prospects available in sectors like technology, artificial intelligence, and culture while expressing appreciation for the warm hospitality extended to his delegation. During his visit, President Lee also signed the VIP guestbook to commemorate the strategic partnership, branding UAE-Korea collaboration as a benchmark for mutual development.
In recognition of the visit, Sheikh Mohamed hosted a luncheon for President Lee and his team. Earlier, the leaders interacted with a community group comprising students, engineers, and nuclear specialists contributing to UAE development projects, in addition to an economic delegation from both nations.
The meeting was attended by high-ranking UAE officials, including His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister; H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi; H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, along with other senior officials. The Korean entourage consisted of various ministers and senior officials accompanying President Lee.
Both sides expressed their determination to further reinforce the UAE-Korea partnership framed by shared interests in economic growth, innovation, and cultural exchange. This visit illustrates the ongoing strategic, economic, and cultural connections between the two nations and lays the groundwork for more profound cooperation in the future.
