UAE's Ambitious Agentic AI Initiative to Modernize 50% of Government in Two Years

Post by : Badri Ariffin

In a landmark session led by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, the UAE Cabinet has greenlit a transformative framework to integrate Agentic AI within government functions.

The assembly saw the participation of senior Emirati officials, including His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, as essential national strategies and reforms came under discussion.

Transformative Reach of Agentic AI

Following the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid declared that AI will revolutionize 50% of government sectors, services, and operations within a two-year framework.

He indicated that this decisive shift will position the UAE as the first nation globally to deploy wide-ranging Agentic AI systems capable of autonomously executing tasks and making decisions in crucial service areas.

AI as a Collaborative Oversight Tool

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid elaborated that the advanced AI systems will perform not just data analyses but will also:

  • Observe changes in real-time

  • Generate recommendations

  • Oversee operations

  • Act independently

  • Assess outcomes and refine services

He emphasized that AI will act as a vital executive partner to enhance efficiency, speed, and service quality.

Workforce Training Initiatives

This transformation will encompass extensive training programs to enable government employees to become proficient with AI technologies.

The assessment of ministers, directors general, and government bodies will hinge on:

  • Rate of AI implementation

  • Deployment of innovative systems

  • Adaptability to forthcoming technologies

Taskforce Dedicated to Implementation

A specialized taskforce has been established to oversee this pivotal project:

  • Oversight: Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan

  • Chair: Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs

Approval of Key Government Policies

The Cabinet has also ratified significant policies, including:

  • UAE Code for Government Services & Zero Bureaucracy, aimed at standardizing and simplifying service processes

  • Government digital records policy to enhance data management and transparency

  • Government data sharing policy based on a “collect once, use across entities” principle

  • Digital project alignment guide to increase efficiency and avoid redundancies

Critical Economic Initiatives

Additional significant decisions included:

  • Reconstitution of the Higher Committee for Free Trade Negotiations

  • Reconstitution of the Emirates Development Bank Board

  • New frameworks aimed at enhancing logistics, digital addressing, and trade mechanisms

Commitment to Sustainability and Green Initiatives

The Cabinet also assessed key green initiatives within the National Biofuel Policy 2025, which includes:

  • Projects converting waste to fuel for sustainable aviation

  • Expansion of biodiesel production capacity

  • A $300 million investment in a new facility in Fujairah

A global energy efficiency alliance has also been initiated to bolster climate action.

International Collaborations and Future Engagements

The UAE approved:

  • The ratification of 16 international agreements and MoUs relating to trade, science, labor, and sustainability

  • Accession to the International Accreditation Organization

  • A national strategy for conserving ivory and rhinoceroses

The nation is also set to host international events, which include the World Mathematics Day 2026, biodiversity and food security conferences, and digital economy workshops.

Embracing a New Era of Digital Governance

This initiative builds on two decades of UAE's digital transformation, evolving from e-government to comprehensive smart services such as UAE Pass. By adopting Agentic AI, the UAE aims to step into an advanced phase of fully intelligent, autonomous government systems, emphasizing speed, efficiency, and enhanced public services.
