UAE Urges for Peace in Sudan at Berlin Conference

UAE Urges for Peace in Sudan at Berlin Conference

Post by : Badri Ariffin

Berlin:

Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan took part in the Third International Conference on Sudan, hosted in Berlin, underscoring the UAE’s dedication to resolving the ongoing conflict and aiding humanitarian initiatives.

The pivotal conference was organized collaboratively by Germany, the European Union, France, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the African Union, building on earlier events held in Paris (2024) and London (2025).

Addressing the Humanitarian Crisis and Ceasefire Needs

Commemorating three years of conflict in Sudan, discussions centered around increasing humanitarian aid, advocating for a ceasefire, and promoting a transition led by civilians.

In his speech, Sheikh Shakhboot emphasized the critical need to cease hostilities, pointing out the devastating consequences for civilians. He denounced breaches of peace by all factions and the essential nature of safeguarding innocent lives.

UAE’s Consistent Position Since 2023

Since the onset of conflict in April 2023, the minister reiterated that the UAE has prioritized:

  • An immediate ceasefire and humanitarian pause

  • Unhindered humanitarian access throughout Sudan

  • A peaceful political resolution led by civilians

  • Emergency relief to tackle the humanitarian crisis

He noted that through the Quad initiative, the UAE has persistently called for an unconditional ceasefire and a commitment to long-term peace, alongside a shift to a civilian governance devoid of armed group influence.

Emphasis on Global Collaboration

Sheikh Shakhboot highlighted the necessity for enhanced collaboration at regional and international levels to conclude the conflict. He reaffirmed the UAE’s dedication to backing all efforts towards restoring stability and peace in Sudan.

On the conference's sidelines, he engaged with several global officials to discuss regional issues and bolster cooperation for peace and security efforts.

UAE’s Steadfast Commitment

The UAE is committed to working together with global and regional partners, particularly across Africa, to tackle the crisis, extend humanitarian aid, and promote sustainable development for the people of Sudan.

The nation asserted that its initiatives are founded on enduring principles of humanitarian solidarity and a resolve to enhance lives globally.
