President Donald Trump is set to hit the roads in style with the addition of newly delivered Cadillac SUVs as U.S. security agencies overhaul transportation for the commander-in-chief.
At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Trump was observed utilizing these fresh Cadillac SUVs, which the U.S. Secret Service has officially incorporated into its convoy. While specific technical details remain undisclosed, these SUVs seem to be extensively modified Cadillac Escalades tailored for advanced security needs.
The Director of the Secret Service, Sean Curran, expressed satisfaction with the agency's long-standing collaboration with General Motors, emphasizing that these enhancements are part of ongoing initiatives to bolster the president's protection while ensuring reliability and safety.
Traditionally, presidents rely on armored SUVs for short-distance travel or outside events. Previously, Trump and past presidents have utilized armored Chevrolet Suburbans when “The Beast,” the renowned presidential limousine, wasn't in use.
This shift to Cadillac SUVs follows Trump’s earlier conversations with General Motors leadership. In March, he met with GM CEO Mary Barra and suggested incorporating Cadillac vehicles into the presidential motorcade. Shortly thereafter, Secret Service representatives inspected potential armored vehicle designs at a GM facility in Michigan.
Simultaneously, efforts are ongoing to develop the next iteration of the presidential limousine. In 2024, the Department of Homeland Security and the Secret Service awarded General Motors a significant contract for a new version of “The Beast.” This endeavor, anticipated to exceed $40 million by 2029, aims to provide heightened protection and advanced technology.
In the air, changes are also underway. During his Davos visit, Trump was temporarily transitioned from a Boeing 747 to a smaller Boeing 757 due to a minor electrical issue. The U.S. Air Force confirmed that plans are in motion to introduce a new aircraft for Trump by summer 2026.
In the interim, Trump is utilizing a luxury Boeing 747 previously owned by Qatar, which is about 13 years old. This aircraft, which boasts a premium interior, is undergoing modifications to comply with strict U.S. security protocols. The retrofit is anticipated to cost several hundred million dollars.
The long-awaited replacement for the current Air Force One fleet has encountered numerous delays, with Boeing’s delivery of two state-of-the-art Air Force One aircraft now expected no sooner than mid-2028, eliciting frustration among officials.
Despite these challenges, authorities remain committed to ensuring the safety and comfort of the president, whether grounded or airborne. The introduction of new Cadillac SUVs and advancements on aircraft underline a continuous effort to modernize the presidential transportation system for the foreseeable future.
