U.S. President Donald Trump has announced his support for a newly formed Palestinian technocratic body that is expected to govern Gaza during a temporary transition period. The body, known as the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, is designed to manage civil affairs and stabilize the region after months of devastating conflict.
Trump said the committee will operate under the supervision of an international body called the “Board of Peace,” which he will chair. The board is expected to oversee Gaza’s governance during the transition phase, while its full list of members is set to be announced soon.
The proposed governing committee will have 15 members and will be led by Ali Shaath, a former deputy minister associated with economic and industrial development. The focus of the technocratic leadership is expected to be on restoring basic services, managing reconstruction, and maintaining order without direct involvement from political factions.
The plan was accepted by both Israel and Hamas in October as part of a broader ceasefire arrangement. However, the truce has remained fragile, with continued violence reported on both sides since it began. Key tensions include unresolved hostage issues, delays in reopening border crossings, and Hamas’ refusal to disarm.
Moving forward, international mediators face major challenges, including negotiating Hamas’ disarmament, coordinating further Israeli troop withdrawals, and deploying an international peacekeeping force to support stability in Gaza.
Trump has said regional partners will work toward a comprehensive demilitarisation agreement, which he views as essential for lasting peace. While supporters see the technocratic government as a practical step toward stability, critics argue that international supervision of Gaza’s governance risks undermining genuine self-rule.
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza remains severe, with widespread destruction, displacement, and shortages following months of fighting. As the technocratic administration prepares to take shape, uncertainty remains over whether this transitional arrangement can bring meaningful calm and set the stage for a durable political solution.
