Three Al-Falah University Doctors Arrested in Red Fort Blast Investigation

Three Al-Falah University Doctors Arrested in Red Fort Blast Investigation

Post by : Rameen Ariff

The historic Red Fort in New Delhi has become the site of tragedy following a devastating explosion that resulted in nine fatalities and injuries to over 20 individuals. In the wake of this incident, India's National Investigation Agency (NIA) has commenced a thorough investigation, zeroing in on three doctors affiliated with Faridabad's Al-Falah University.

The detained individuals are Muzammil Shakeel, Umar Mohammed, and Shaheen Shahid. While Muzammil and Umar are originally from Kashmir, Shaheen hails from Lucknow. Each has professional connections to Al-Falah University and contributed to its associated medical facility in Faridabad.

Authorities disclosed that Muzammil's name emerged amid inquiries related to a significant cache of explosives discovered in Faridabad. Approximately 2,900 kg of materials used for bomb-making and other suspicious artifacts were found in two rooms rented by Muzammil, who also resided on the university grounds. Furthermore, additional weaponry, including assault rifles, was recovered from a vehicle tied to Shaheen Shahid. It is believed that Shahid was preparing to establish the women’s division of the Jaish-e-Mohammed in India, known as Jamaat ul-Mominaat and led by Sadia Azhar, the sibling of Jaish founder Masood Azhar.

Umar Mohammed, who has close ties to Muzammil, is suspected of being the driver of the Hyundai i20 involved in the explosion near a traffic signal in Delhi. Investigators are considering the possibility that this incident was a suicide bombing linked to the series of investigative actions against Muzammil and the explosive materials seizure.

Delhi Police officials have reached out to Al-Falah University, scrutinizing CCTV surveillance and interviewing faculty and students to unearth further evidence. This case has heightened fears regarding terror networks potentially masquerading as educational establishments.

The agency’s engagement highlights the serious nature of the blast and its implications for organized terrorist activities. As the investigation unfolds, authorities are working to establish links among the apprehended individuals, the explosive materials found, and the fatal explosion at the Red Fort.
