Thailand Strengthens Foreign Policy and Security Strategy

Thailand Strengthens Foreign Policy and Security Strategy

Post by : Shakul

The Thai government has released a summary of its recent foreign policy and security developments, outlining key actions taken over the past week. The update reflects the government’s focus on strengthening international relations while reinforcing national security measures.

According to government spokesperson Ms. Rachada Thanadirek, these actions are in line with the policies presented to Parliament by Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul on April 9, 2026. The policies aim to enhance cooperation with partner countries while ensuring that Thailand’s borders remain secure against all forms of threats.

On the security front, the government has taken a significant step regarding the Thai-Cambodian situation by deciding to revoke MOU 44. The decision was made during the National Security Council meeting held on April 23, where officials concluded that the existing framework was no longer effective and could potentially lead to further conflict. A new negotiation framework is expected to be developed to ensure peaceful resolution and better resource management.

The National Security Council also approved five key approaches to address challenges in the southern border provinces. These include improving the education system to better suit local needs, strengthening the role of community volunteers, enhancing cooperation with Malaysia, appointing a leader for peace dialogue efforts, and designating a special government representative to coordinate operations among relevant agencies.

In terms of foreign relations, Thailand continues to strengthen ties with key international partners. During a recent visit on April 24, senior Chinese diplomat Wang Yi met with Thai leadership to discuss bilateral cooperation. Both sides agreed to deepen their strategic partnership and expand collaboration, particularly in tackling transnational crime and scam networks.

The discussions between Thailand and China were described as constructive and forward-looking. The focus on security cooperation is expected to enhance safety and build greater confidence among citizens of both nations.

The government emphasized its commitment to a “tangible foreign policy” approach, aiming to deliver real and measurable outcomes. Officials stated that this strategy will play a vital role in strengthening national security, resolving regional issues, and promoting effective international cooperation.
