Thailand has intensified efforts to strengthen its economic and diplomatic ties with Europe after Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul chaired a major policy meeting with ambassadors and consuls general from 24 European countries in Paris. The high-level meeting focused on accelerating the Thailand-European Union Free Trade Agreement and expanding proactive diplomacy strategies.
According to officials, the meeting marked the first time Thailand’s prime minister and deputy prime ministers held a direct strategic discussion with Team Thailand representatives across Europe. The discussions lasted more than three hours and covered economic cooperation, trade expansion, diplomacy, investment and regional development.
A major focus of the meeting was the acceleration of the Thailand-European Union Free Trade Agreement, which the government described as a top national priority. The Prime Minister stressed that the FTA would reduce tariff barriers, improve market access and create new opportunities for Thai exports and businesses in Europe.
Government officials also announced plans to integrate ministries and agencies into coordinated “cluster” operations to improve negotiation efficiency and policy implementation. Diplomats attending the meeting reportedly noted that Thailand is once again gaining strong international attention as a reliable economic and strategic partner in the global supply chain.
Prime Minister Anutin promoted what he described as “Diplomacy 2.0,” a proactive and practical foreign policy strategy focused on security, economy, environment, society and humanitarian cooperation. He emphasized that diplomacy should deliver visible and measurable benefits directly to citizens and businesses.
Thailand’s leadership also highlighted efforts to modernize national laws and standards to align with Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development standards. Authorities aim to complete the process within three years as part of Thailand’s broader push for OECD membership and stronger international competitiveness.
The government additionally promoted Thailand’s strengths in food security, clean energy and regional logistics while preparing to host several major global events including Gastech 2026, the World Bank–IMF Annual Meetings and the Global Wellness Summit later this year.
Officials believe these international events and economic reforms will strengthen investor confidence and position Thailand as a leading strategic hub in Southeast Asia. The Prime Minister concluded by urging all Thai agencies and diplomatic missions in Europe to work together as “Team Thailand” to push the country further onto the global stage.
