Thailand has moved swiftly to tighten regulations in the beauty and cosmetic clinic industry following a shocking death that has raised serious public concerns. Authorities are now focusing on strengthening consumer safety and closing legal gaps within the sector.
The action was led by Supamas Isarabhakdi, who instructed the Office of the Consumer Protection Board to urgently investigate the incident that occurred in Nakhon Pathom province. The case has triggered nationwide debate about safety standards in cosmetic procedures.
The minister emphasized that reviewing service contracts used by beauty clinics is a top priority. Authorities are now considering whether such businesses should fall under stricter contract regulation to ensure transparency, fairness, and accountability for consumers.
Officials believe that clearly defined standard contracts will help establish the rights and responsibilities of both service providers and clients. These documents could also serve as critical legal evidence in cases involving negligence or substandard services.
The government highlighted that consumer safety remains a fundamental right. If investigations confirm negligence in the recent case, authorities are prepared to support legal action on behalf of affected families to ensure justice is served.
The minister also pointed out that the beauty industry currently falls under multiple laws, including healthcare and consumer protection regulations, which can create overlaps and loopholes. Efforts are now underway to streamline these frameworks through coordination with health authorities and regulatory bodies.
Thailand aims to introduce a more integrated system to improve oversight and enforcement. The initiative reflects a broader commitment to ensuring that beauty services are safe, transparent, and properly regulated, while protecting the rights and well-being of all consumers.
