Tebo County Shaken by 5.5 Magnitude Earthquake, 20,000 Evacuated

Tebo County Shaken by 5.5 Magnitude Earthquake, 20,000 Evacuated

Post by : Badri Ariffin

Beijing: On Monday, Tebo County in Gansu Province's Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture experienced a 5.5 magnitude earthquake, as reported by the China Earthquake Networks Centre (CENC).

This seismic event necessitated the evacuation of over 20,000 residents to secure areas. Local officials have confirmed that no injuries occurred in the regions impacted.

In the aftermath, authorities deployed 350 police officers for search and rescue operations, complemented by the Gansu province's fire and rescue teams, which mobilized 340 personnel, 65 vehicles, and seven trained search dogs to assist in reaching affected locales.

Reports indicate that while some buildings sustained minor structural damage, the swift response minimized the risk of serious injuries. Relief teams are strategically positioned across the region to monitor aftershocks and offer necessary assistance.

Local officials have advised residents to remain cautious and adhere to safety protocols from emergency services, while ongoing assessments of vulnerable buildings are underway.

This earthquake is part of a series of tremors affecting northwest China, underscoring the necessity for readiness and prompt responses in areas prone to seismic activity. Authorities are continuously evaluating the situation to protect public safety in the wake of this quake.
