Malaysian police have arrested seven suspects in connection with a brutal parang attack that left a 38-year-old man dead in Bukit Kangkar, Sungai Mati, Johor. The incident, which was captured on CCTV, showed the victim being chased by armed assailants before being fatally attacked.
According to authorities, two suspects were arrested shortly after the incident, while five more were detained later as investigations intensified. District police chief Roslan Mohd Talib confirmed that all suspects are currently assisting in the investigation.
Police have strongly denied allegations that no arrests were made and dismissed claims suggesting that the victim’s family was asked to withdraw the murder report. Authorities clarified that such actions are not legally possible in murder cases.
Officials also warned that impersonating law enforcement officers or attempting to interfere with investigations is a serious offence under Malaysian law.
Family members claimed the victim was lured to the location under the pretext of a meeting before being ambushed. CCTV footage shows multiple attackers armed with parang chasing and assaulting him, leading to fatal injuries.
Police are recording further statements from the victim’s family, including allegations of intimidation during the funeral.
Authorities are still investigating the motive behind the killing, with possibilities including personal disputes, gang-related activity, or a targeted attack. Police have assured that all angles are being examined to ensure justice is served.
