Abu Dhabi, UAE – Announcing its seventh edition in 2026, the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity has selected the Palestinian non-profit Taawon as its third honoree. The esteemed award ceremony will take place at the Founder’s Memorial in Abu Dhabi on February 4, 2026.
Taawon will receive this accolade alongside two other significant honorees: the peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia and Zarqa Yaftali, an advocate for Afghan girls’ education.
The recognition is due to Taawon’s extensive humanitarian efforts and development programs that benefit over one million individuals yearly throughout Palestine. Founded in 1983, Taawon has allocated more than US$1 billion towards initiatives in education, youth empowerment, orphan care, cultural preservation, community building, health services, agriculture, and emergency aid.
With over 8,200 implemented projects, Taawon has played a vital role in enhancing the economic, social, and cultural conditions of young people and communities. The organization is also dedicated to maintaining Palestinian heritage and promoting sustainable development efforts.
Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam, the Secretary-General of the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity, noted that Taawon was honored for its remarkable humanitarian work and its commitment to strengthening Palestinian society amid adversity, transitioning from immediate relief to sustainable development in education, health, and social integration.
Dr. Nabil H. Qaddumi, Chairman of Taawon’s Board of Directors, expressed pride in receiving the award and gratitude to the judging committee, asserting that this recognition will enhance Taawon’s programs and elevate humanitarian issues in Palestine on a global stage.
Previously, the award celebrated the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace agreement and Zarqa Yaftali as its first and second honorees. Leaders from both Azerbaijan and Armenia have embraced the recognition as beneficial for promoting peace in the Caucasus. Zarqa Yaftali highlighted that this honor sparks hope for girls and women in Afghanistan and beyond.
Since its inception in 2019, the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity has recognized 20 recipients from various countries, including Pope Francis and Grand Imam Ahmed Al-Tayeb, acknowledging their significant contributions to peace and dialogue.
