A tragic bus fire near the Swiss capital Bern has left at least six people dead and three others seriously injured, according to local authorities. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening in the town of Kerzers, located about 25 kilometers west of Bern, sending shockwaves across the region.
Emergency services rushed to the scene after reports that a regional passenger bus had caught fire. By the time firefighters and rescue teams arrived, the vehicle was already engulfed in flames, making it extremely difficult to save passengers trapped inside.
Bus Completely Engulfed in Flames
Police officials from the canton of Fribourg confirmed that the bus was severely damaged by the fire. Initial investigations suggest the possibility of a deliberate act, though authorities have stated that the exact cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
Witnesses reported that the fire spread rapidly through the bus, leaving passengers with little time to escape. Rescue teams worked quickly to control the flames and assist survivors.
Injured Airlifted to Hospital
Three people who suffered serious injuries were transported to nearby hospitals by ambulance and rescue helicopter. Two other individuals were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
The bus involved in the incident was operated by PostBus, a regional public transportation company linked to Switzerland’s national postal service. PostBus operates a wide network of buses that connect towns and rural communities across the country.
Authorities have launched a full investigation to determine how the fire started and whether any criminal activity was involved. Officials say further details will be released once the investigation progresses.
The deadly accident has raised concerns about passenger safety and emergency response in public transport systems across Switzerland.
