A young Delhi Police SWAT officer, Kajal Chaudhary, aged 27, has died after suffering a violent assault by her husband. Kajal, who joined the Delhi Police in 2022 and was an active member of the Special Weapons and Tactics team, was attacked by her husband Ankur on January 22.
The couple reportedly had frequent disputes over financial matters, which took a deadly turn when Ankur, employed as a clerk in the Ministry of Defence, struck Kajal on the head with a heavy dumbbell. She was immediately admitted to the hospital with critical head injuries but succumbed to her wounds during treatment on Tuesday.
Kajal’s brother, also a police constable, shared chilling details of the attack. Kajal had called him on the day of the incident, and during their phone conversation, Ankur began assaulting her. Shortly after, Ankur even admitted to the attack over the phone.
Additionally, Kajal faced continuous dowry-related harassment from her mother-in-law and sisters-in-law, as alleged by family members.
Following the incident, police have registered a murder case against Ankur. He has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody. The couple, married in 2023, leave behind a one-and-a-half-year-old son.
This heartbreaking case shines a harsh light on the persistent problems of domestic violence and dowry harassment in society, emphasizing the urgent need for stronger enforcement and awareness.
