Post by : Shweta

Maninder Sidhu held discussions with He Lifeng during his official trip to Haikou, aimed at advancing the economic and trade ties between Canada and China. This meeting occurred on the fringes of the China International Consumer Products Expo, a significant venue designed to promote global trade and investment opportunities.

Minister Sidhu conveyed Canada’s gratitude for being honored as the Guest Country of Honour at the expo. He underscored the substantial participation of Canadian enterprises and expressed that the event allows for enhanced market presence and the forging of new partnerships.

Focused on boosting bilateral trade while ensuring stable economic relations, Sidhu emphasized Canada's desire for a pragmatic and constructive relationship with China, particularly amid uncertain global trade dynamics. He also mentioned the necessity for transparent dialogue on economic matters that significantly impact Canadian industries and exporters.

A central theme of their dialogue was resurrecting the Canada-China Economic and Financial Strategic Dialogue, recognized as a crucial framework for addressing trade challenges and exploring new avenues for cooperation. Both parties expressed their commitment to regular discussions aimed at fostering a stable economic relationship.

Vice-Premier He Lifeng and Minister Sidhu concurred on the importance of sustaining a positive trajectory in their bilateral relations. They reiterated a shared commitment to deepening collaboration in mutual areas of interest, such as trade, investment, and economic advancement.

This meeting highlights the ongoing diplomatic initiative to rehabilitate and stabilize relations between Canada and China, focusing on tangible outcomes that benefit businesses and foster economic growth in both nations.
