Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum made a significant visit to Al Barakah Dates Factory, recognized as the world’s largest privately owned dates facility, situated in Dubai Industrial City.
Spanning over 800,000 square feet, this factory boasts an impressive annual output capacity of 100,000 tonnes, solidifying its standing among the top firms in global date processing and packaging.
During his tour, Sheikh Mohammed articulated the UAE's commitment to becoming a worldwide hub for cutting-edge food industries. He underscored the nation’s emphasis on innovation, robust production frameworks, and enhancing the competitiveness of local products.
He further stated that the dates industry exemplifies how the UAE has evolved its agricultural heritage into a contemporary, high-value sector that fosters economic advancement and enhances food security.
Sheikh Mohammed pointed out that the UAE continues to channel investments into key sectors, particularly in food, aimed at boosting production efficiency, incorporating advanced technologies, and expanding into international markets.
He highlighted the significance of the dates sector in reflecting the UAE’s identity and heritage, stating that its progression mirrors the country's vision of generating sustainable opportunities. He also mentioned the humanitarian initiatives in the sector aimed at battling malnutrition and supporting global food security.
Accompanied by Malek Al Malek, Sheikh Mohammed received insights from the factory’s founder, Saleem Mohammed, and Managing Director Yousuf Saleem Mohammed regarding the production methods, packaging techniques, and product assortment.
The factory proudly exports its offerings to 97 nations, with significant markets that include the US, the UK, and the entirety of Europe.
Established in 2004, Dubai Industrial City is home to over 350 manufacturing entities and more than 17,000 employees. Its strategic proximity to essential transport links such as Jebel Ali Port, Al Maktoum International Airport, and the freight terminal of Etihad Rail guarantees robust logistical support.
The factory is a testament to a successful private sector undertaking in the food industry. Founder Saleem Mohammed commenced his journey in Dubai in 1983, branching into dates trading and processing during the 1990s.
