Islamabad – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday met World Bank President Ajay Pal Singh Banga, acknowledging his leadership in strengthening the Bank’s role as a key development partner for Pakistan.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Shehbaz praised the long-term partnership between Pakistan and the World Bank and highlighted its commitment to supporting the country’s development priorities.
He commended the ten-year World Bank Country Partnership Framework (CPF), calling it a model for cooperative development initiatives. “Pakistan values the World Bank Group’s significant support in the country’s economic growth and reforms,” he said.
PM Shehbaz emphasized that the government is committed to a comprehensive reform program tailored to national needs to achieve sustainable economic stability. He listed key areas of support, including infrastructure, agribusiness, digital development, energy, human capital, financial reforms, employment generation, and private sector investment.
Both leaders stressed that the CPF should focus on rapid implementation of priorities and effective monitoring to deliver timely and large-scale results. Shehbaz said these measures would help overcome obstacles in project execution and align with his vision for national progress.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to administrative reforms that promote employment-based economic growth and enhance investor confidence.
Banga appreciated Pakistan’s ongoing reform efforts, stating, “We are committed to deepening cooperation under the ‘One World Bank Group’ initiative. Achieving the government’s reform agenda requires close coordination with development partners and better use of private resources.”
Banga is on a four-day high-level visit to Pakistan, which started on February 1 and will continue until February 4. During his visit, he is touring several official and cultural sites.
