Acclaimed actor Rakesh Bedi has reacted to the recent allegations regarding his interaction with co-star Sara Arjun at the Dhurandhar trailer launch last month. The 71-year-old, who portrays the crafty politician Jameel Jamali, faced criticism for reportedly kissing Sara on the shoulder during the event, which he has since labeled as “stupid.”
In an interview, Rakesh clarified that their relationship is purely that of father and daughter on screen, given Sara's significantly younger age. He stated, “Whenever we met during filming, she would greet me with a hug, akin to a daughter and father. Our rapport is strong and resonates in our performances.”
He further noted, “That day was no exception; however, some choose to overlook the affection shared—a fatherly love towards a young girl. Dekhne wale ki aankh mein gadbad hai to kya kar sakte ho (What can you do if people interpret it wrong)?” Rakesh added, “Would I publicly kiss her with ill intentions in front of her parents? People are quick to create drama out of nothing on social media.”
Rakesh stressed that he isn’t defending himself but expressing the truth. He shared a personal anecdote about a fan with a differently-abled child who admires his work, underlining the respect garnered throughout his extensive career.
The film Dhurandhar, which features Ranveer Singh, R Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, along with Rakesh and Sara, has received enthusiastic feedback from audiences and has achieved significant success.
