Canada's PM Carney to Engage Live with Astronaut Hansen

Post by : Shweta

A significant live event is set for April 8, as Canada's Prime Minister Mark Carney engages in a conversation with astronaut Jeremy Hansen, who is part of the groundbreaking Artemis II lunar mission. This will be the mission's third and final live communication from space.

The Prime Minister will connect virtually while guests and officials gather live at the John H. Chapman Space Centre in Longueuil, Quebec, with the event commencing at 7:00 pm ET and the link to space following shortly thereafter.

Minister of Industry, Mélanie Joly, will also be in attendance. The event will begin with a prayer of thanksgiving by Bryan Akwirente Deer, Chief of the Bear Clan of the Mohawk Nation of Kahnawake, emphasizing the importance of cultural inclusion.

A highlight of the evening will be an interactive Q&A segment featuring young Canadians selected from STEM programs such as Actua and Let’s Talk Science as well as Air Cadets, giving them the chance to directly engage with astronaut Hansen. This initiative aims to motivate the youth and spark their interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Joshua Kutryk, another Canadian astronaut, will be in attendance, symbolizing Canada’s essential role in space exploration. The Canadian Space Agency has stated that this event underscores the country's increasing presence and contributions to international space missions.

The Artemis II mission signifies a pivotal point in global space exploration, representing humanity’s return to the Moon's orbit after many years. Canada’s involvement through Jeremy Hansen reflects the nation's commitment to lunar and future deep-space missions.

This historic interaction will be livestreamed on the Canadian Space Agency’s official YouTube channel, allowing viewers from across Canada and beyond to witness this unique connection between Earth and space. Officials are urging the public and media to join the broadcast, highlighting its significance.

Overall, this live exchange between Prime Minister Carney and astronaut Hansen is poised to highlight scientific achievements, international collaboration, and inspire future generations of explorers.
