Abu Dhabi 2025: A New Era of Phygital Sports Unveiled

Abu Dhabi proudly announces the Games of the Future (GOTF) 2025, endorsed by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE. Set to take place from 18–23 December at the esteemed ADNEC Centre, the event will kick off with an electrifying opening ceremony on 17 December, showcasing innovative hybrid sporting events under the theme: Next Gen Human. Play the Future.

Exploring Phygital Sports

Phygital sports merge the realms of traditional sports with digital gameplay in a cohesive format. Teams engage in virtual competitions prior to facing off in physical arenas, with cumulative scores deciding the champions, underscoring the synergy between technology and actual athletic prowess.

This edition sees over 850 competitors from 60 nations—featuring established teams, emerging talents, and stellar newcomers—competing in 11 varied disciplines, creating one of the most extensive and vibrant competitions to date.

His Excellency Faisal Al Bannai, UAE President's Adviser and ATRC Secretary General, stated:
"Phygital sport signifies not just a competitive format, but a progressive mindset for youth. We're honored to host this event, fostering innovation and community engagement around future technologies."

Nis Hatt, CEO of Phygital International, remarked:
"The Games of the Future establishes a global standard in phygital sports, ensuring fair and competitive play across both physical and digital dimensions."

Stephane Timpano, CEO of ASPIRE, conveyed the event's significant influence:
"By merging digital platforms, immersive gaming, and real-time data, we are transforming competition and enhancing fan experiences worldwide."

Competitions & Rewards

The draw ceremony has set the stage for group matchups across various disciplines. Teams will compete fiercely, striving for a share of the US$5 million prize pool, while fans become engrossed in the unfolding narratives throughout the competition.

Phygital Sports Summit

Concurrent with the event, the Phygital Sports Summit on 17 December will delve into the future of hybrid sports. Thought leaders, athletes, and policymakers will gather to address pressing topics, including human–AI collaboration, youth engagement, and the future of athletic welfare within the context of phygital sports.

The summit will feature panel discussions, keynote speeches, and intimate conversations moderated by prominent figures such as Amy Jane Gillingham, Mohammed Al Hosani, and Sabine Sassine. Invited dignitaries include:

  • His Excellency Dr Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, UAE Minister of Sports

  • President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan

  • Ministers from Bahrain and Türkiye

The Games of the Future Abu Dhabi 2025 is a joint initiative by ASPIRE, in collaboration with Ethara and Phygital International, with significant backing from the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the UAE Ministry of Sports.
