Authorities in the UK are ramping up their efforts to locate Pankaj Lamba, the prime suspect in the murder of his wife, Harshita Brella. Her body was discovered strangled and concealed in the trunk of a vehicle in Ilford, East London, on November 14, 2024. Harshita, only 24, is believed to have been murdered in Corby, Northamptonshire, days prior.
After the crime, Lamba fled to India and has since vanished, prompting UK police to head to India as part of their extensive investigation. Reports indicate that he was running a snack and vegetable shop in a Delhi neighborhood near his upbringing, often hiding his identity and accompanied by a woman and a child. The seller has since been transformed into an egg outlet.
Both Harshita and Lamba were originally from Delhi and had relocated to the UK in early 2024. In March, charges were filed against Lamba for murder, rape, sexual assault, and coercive actions. Remarkably, he had previously been released on bail despite domestic abuse allegations leveled by Harshita, with the restrictions expiring only a month before her tragic death.
Harshita’s family is expressing their anger over the oversight of the case. Her mother, Sudesh Kumari, is crying out for justice, stating, “Why has her killer not been apprehended? The UK and Indian governments are doing nothing. I need justice for my daughter to find peace.” Her sister, Sonia Dabas, criticized the lack of attention given to their plight by both governments.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is examining the actions of four officers from Northamptonshire Police regarding the mishandling of Harshita’s domestic abuse claims. A report has been completed and submitted to the police, which is expected to provide a response by mid-November.
As the search for Lamba intensifies, UK authorities urge anyone with knowledge of his location to step forward, emphasizing the critical need for justice in the case of Harshita Brella.
