A growing number of Pakistani nationals have returned home through the Taftan border crossing in Balochistan amid ongoing US and Israeli strikes in Iran that have heightened security concerns across the region.
Officials confirmed that immigration processing at the border is operating round the clock to facilitate the influx. Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has deployed additional staff to ensure smooth entry procedures and provide assistance to returning citizens.
According to local authorities, the journey from Tehran to Taftan spans nearly 1,800 kilometres, requiring three to four days of overland travel. Many of those returning include students, pilgrims, businesspeople and tourists.
Balochistan officials stated that temporary accommodation, meals and onward travel support have been arranged on the directives of Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti. Deputy Commissioner Gwadar Naqeebullah Kakar said dozens of Pakistanis had already crossed back safely, while more continue to arrive.
In addition to Taftan, over a hundred individuals reportedly returned via the Gabd-Rimdan border crossing near Gwadar. Authorities confirmed that a foreign national was also among those who crossed.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to Iran, Muhammad Mudassir Tipu, stated that approximately 650 Pakistani nationals, mostly students, had been evacuated across Iran in the past two days. He thanked Iranian authorities as well as border officials for cooperation during what he described as a complex evacuation process.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised Pakistani nationals to avoid non-essential travel to Iran and urged those currently residing there to remain vigilant and stay in contact with diplomatic missions.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed relevant authorities to ensure the safe evacuation and protection of Pakistani citizens amid escalating regional tensions.
The Taftan crossing remains a key land route between Pakistan and Iran and has historically been used during periods of regional instability for repatriation and humanitarian movements.
