The New York Mets have bolstered their pitching lineup with the acquisition of ace Freddy Peralta and right-hander Tobias Myers from the Milwaukee Brewers in a notable trade. In return, the Brewers receive promising prospects Brandon Sproat and Jett Williams, who are both featured in MLB’s top 100 prospects list by Baseball America.
At 29, Peralta enjoyed a stellar 2025 season, finishing with a 17-6 record, a 2.70 ERA, and 204 strikeouts in 176⅔ innings pitched. He led the National League in wins and secured his second All-Star selection. Myers, 27, posted a 1-2 record with a 3.55 ERA across 22 appearances last year, showcasing his ability to serve as both a starter and a reliever.
Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns commented, “Freddy's acquisition brings in an established starter to enhance our rotation. Tobias' flexibility to pitch in either the rotation or bullpen provides us with options.”
This strategic move follows the Mets’ signing of free agent Bo Bichette and the addition of center fielder Luis Robert Jr., reflecting their aggressive strategy to optimize the team's performance.
Known for trading star pitchers before their final contract year, the Brewers will focus on maintaining a rotation led by two-time All-Star Brandon Woodruff, rookie Jacob Misiorowski, and their newly added prospects Sproat and Williams. Brewers president Matt Arnold stated, “We value our time with Freddy. While these transactions are difficult, they are intended to benefit both organizations.”
Peralta, who has been injury-free since 2022, is set to earn $8 million this season and could hit the free agent market post-World Series. Myers will compete for a prominent role within the Mets’ pitching staff.
Following this trade, the Mets’ rotation now includes Freddy Peralta, Nolan McLean, Clay Holmes, David Peterson, Sean Manaea, and Kodai Senga. To accommodate this change on the roster, the Mets designated right-hander Cooper Criswell for assignment.
This trade exemplifies the Mets’ proactive off-season efforts as they strive to enhance their pitching roster and compete fiercely in the 2026 season.
