Rory McIlroy is setting his sights on clinching a fifth Rolex Series title at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic as he launches his 2026 DP World Tour season.
The world No. 2 enjoyed a remarkable 2025, achieving a career Grand Slam with a Masters win, securing his second Amgen Irish Open title, and contributing to Team Europe’s victory at the Ryder Cup held at Bethpage Black. Additionally, he claimed the Harry Vardon Trophy for the seventh time, reaffirming his position as Europe’s leading golfer.
At 36, McIlroy remains committed to bringing passion to each tournament. “I must arrive at events with enthusiasm every time,” he stated. “If I execute everything else effectively, the outcomes will follow.”
McIlroy’s fondness for Dubai is well documented. He made his professional debut at the Emirates Golf Club two decades ago when he was a 16-year-old amateur, and since then, he has achieved seven wins, eight second-place finishes, and 37 top-10 results in the UAE. This year, he aims to secure a record fifth Dallah Trophy.
Defending champion Tyrrell Hatton will also grace Dubai, making his first appearance in the 2026 Race to Dubai. Hatton, who triumphed last year by a single shot over Daniel Hillier, boasts five Rolex Series victories, equaling his teammate Jon Rahm, and seeks to defend his title.
Former champion Viktor Hovland also starts his 2026 season in Dubai after finishing in the top 25 at the Nedbank Golf Challenge. The Norwegian has worked on refining his swing and is hopeful for improved consistency this season.
The 2026 Hero Dubai Desert Classic guarantees exciting competition, as elite golfers like McIlroy, Hatton, and Hovland strive for early-season success in the UAE.
