Prominent far-right figure and US politician Marjorie Taylor Greene has announced her resignation from Congress. This significant decision comes just a week after President Donald Trump withdrew his endorsement, indicating a notable shift in their political partnership.
Representing Georgia since 2020, Greene shared her announcement via an online video, revealing that she had "never fit in" in Washington, expressing feelings of unpopularity. She expressed her desire to avoid a “hurtful and hateful” primary battle, especially since Trump is now supporting another candidate.
Greene will officially leave her position on January 5, 2026.
Once a staunch supporter of Trump and a key figure in the “Make America Great Again” agenda, Greene faced criticism after Trump dubbed her “Wacky Marjorie” on November 7, labeling her a “lightweight” and even a “traitor” on social media.
In response to Trump’s remarks, Greene reported an influx of threats directed at her.
Her resignation illustrates growing tensions within the MAGA movement, particularly following Democrats’ strong performances in recent local elections. Tensions were further heightened by Trump’s surprising meeting with newly elected left-leaning New York mayor Zohran Mamdani, which caught many supporters off guard.
Moreover, conservatives have expressed discontent over Trump’s inconsistent comments regarding the controversial Jeffrey Epstein case, surrounded by continued debate.
Greene emphasized that her advocacy for victims in the Epstein case contributed to the backlash she faced.
“Defending American women who faced abuse, trafficking, and exploitation should not make me a target,” she stated, conveying the emotional impact of being attacked by a president she once supported.
Greene’s departure represents a striking fracture in her alliance with Trump, underscoring increasing rifts within the conservative movement as the 2026 elections approach.
