Marc Miller Offers Vaisakhi Greetings to Sikh Community

Post by : Shweta

The Government of Canada has conveyed heartfelt greetings to the Sikh community in celebration of Vaisakhi. In a formal address, Marc Miller, Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture, acknowledged the festival's profound cultural and spiritual importance.

Vaisakhi commemorates the creation of the Khalsa by Guru Gobind Singh Ji in the late 17th century, symbolizing a collective of dedicated Sikh followers upholding principles of equality, bravery, and justice. The minister remarked that this occasion serves as both a celebration and a reminder of the fundamental teachings of Sikhism.

In his message, Miller underscored the significance of Sikh principles such as respect, integrity, selflessness, and compassion. He highlighted that these values continue to inspire Sikh communities globally and in Canada.

The statement also acknowledged the essential practice of seva, or selfless service, which is pivotal in Sikhism. Sikh Canadians play a crucial role in contributing to society through community support, charitable initiatives, and aiding those in need.

Miller reaffirmed the government’s dedication to safeguarding the rights of all individuals in Canada to practice their faith freely and safely. He emphasized that diversity and inclusion are fundamental Canadian values, and religious freedom is a basic right for every citizen.

As festivities unfold across Canada, the minister wrapped up his message with warm wishes to everyone celebrating, declaring, “Vaisakhi diyan lakh lakh vadhaiyan.”

This statement reflects Canada’s commitment to multiculturalism and its ongoing support for communities honoring significant cultural and religious events.
