MetMalaysia has issued a weather warning for thunderstorms affecting many parts of Malaysia, including the Klang Valley. The advisory highlights the risk of heavy rainfall, strong winds, and possible disruption across several regions.
According to the department, the warning is valid until 6 pm on May 2, 2026. During this period, rainfall is expected to exceed 20 millimeters per hour in some areas, which may lead to localized flooding and reduced visibility.
The Klang Valley, which includes Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, and Putrajaya, is among the most affected regions. Residents in these areas have been advised to remain cautious and limit outdoor activities during periods of intense weather.
Several states in Peninsular Malaysia are also under alert, including Perlis, Kedah, Penang, and Perak. Thunderstorms are expected to develop quickly and may last for more than an hour in certain locations.
Eastern states such as Kelantan, Terengganu, and Pahang are also experiencing unstable weather conditions. Southern regions including Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, and Johor are expected to see similar patterns of heavy rain and strong winds.
In East Malaysia, parts of Sarawak and Sabah have also been included in the warning. Areas such as Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu, Kota Kinabalu, and Tuaran may experience thunderstorms during the advisory period.
Labuan is also affected, with weather conditions expected to remain unstable throughout the day. Authorities have advised the public to stay updated with official announcements and avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather.
MetMalaysia explained that thunderstorm warnings are short term advisories that usually remain valid for up to six hours. These warnings are issued when weather conditions indicate the possibility of heavy rainfall and strong winds.
Overall, the warning highlights the need for public awareness and safety during changing weather conditions. People are encouraged to stay alert, follow safety guidelines, and take precautions to avoid potential risks.
