Macy’s 99th Thanksgiving Parade: A Spectacle of New Floats and Favorites

Macy’s 99th Thanksgiving Parade: A Spectacle of New Floats and Favorites

Post by : Meena Ariff

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade has been a cherished American holiday tradition for nearly a century. The 99th edition will begin on Thursday, November 27, bringing forth dazzling floats, enormous balloons, and beloved figures from pop culture.

Recent previews at Macy’s Parade Studio in Moonachie, New Jersey, highlighted newcomers like Pop Mart’s Labubu and Mokoko, who will be showcased on a stunning new float.

Brendan Kennedy, Macy’s Director of Creative Production, gave fans a taste of the excitement by announcing a float inspired by Stranger Things, featuring an eight-and-a-half-foot-tall Demogorgon. “Beware!” he warned.

This year witnesses the introduction of seven vibrant new floats, including themes such as The Land of Glaciers by Holland America Line, Brick-tastic Winter Mountain by The LEGO Group, and Master Chocolatier Ballroom by Lindt, alongside favorites like Upside Down Invasion: Stranger Things and Friends-giving in POPCITY.

Kennedy remarked on the parade's ongoing relationship with contemporary culture, noting, “This truly reflects what is happening in the world today, and we continually strive to elevate the parade experience.”

Five new giant balloons will make their debut: Buzz Lightyear, PAC-MAN, Shrek’s Onion Carriage, Mario, and Derpy Tiger from Netflix’s K-Pop Demon Hunters. A special balloonicle will also join the lineup, enhancing the lively atmosphere.

Furthermore, Labubu and Lacoco will create history as Macy’s first-ever 16-foot inflatable furry balloons, exemplifying the innovation and artistry that define this time-honored festive celebration.
