His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council, presided over the Council’s inaugural meeting of 2026 at Dubai Media. This session concentrated on assessing Dubai Media’s strategic direction and future initiatives to reinforce the city’s status as a global nucleus for media, the creative economy, and content generation.
During the meeting, Sheikh Ahmed sanctioned the debut of Dubai+, a pioneering digital platform poised to provide a variety of media content tailored for families. This initiative mirrors evolving digital consumption habits and the rising appetite for both local and international entertainment. Dubai+ is set to showcase a broad spectrum of Arab and global films and series, aiming to position Dubai as a central hub for content creation and distribution.
The Council also deliberated on prospective strategies to bolster local film production and champion cinema as a vital cultural industry. Samr Al Marzooqi, Director of Films and Production at the Dubai Media Council, unveiled forthcoming initiatives aimed at fostering the film sector, investing in creative talent, and promoting both Emirati and international filmmakers.
Additionally, the meeting assessed the forthcoming UAE–Kuwait Media Celebration, orchestrated by the Dubai Press Club under the guidance of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. This event seeks to enhance media collaboration and cultural connections between the UAE and Kuwait.
Council members were also updated on significant national and community campaigns led by Brand Dubai in 2025, featuring the #ZayedAndRashid campaign and the Hatta Winter initiative as part of the #DubaiDestinations campaign.
On a related note, Sheikh Ahmed explored innovative external broadcasting technologies rolled out by Dubai Media and its collaborators, including systems recently introduced in the Middle East.
Sheikh Ahmed emphasized that media is instrumental in shaping public understanding, supporting development, and fostering trust. He underscored the need for investing in talent, empowering youth, leveraging AI and technology, and luring specialized investments to fast-track the advancement of Dubai’s media landscape.
Mona Al Marri, Vice Chairperson and Managing Director of the Dubai Media Council, stated that the Council is committed to executing strategic initiatives with clear governance and responsibility. Nehal Badri, Secretary General of the Council, reiterated that efforts will persist to enrich content development, bolster storytelling abilities, and invest in talent and cutting-edge production technologies for sustained growth.
