Kicking off on Friday, the 2025 ISSF Shooting World Cup Finals for rifle, pistol, and shotgun competitions will take place at the Lusail Shooting Complex in Qatar, attracting world champions and leading shooters from across the globe. This four-day event will culminate on Monday, showcasing the top 12 men and women shooters in each category. Tournament director Jassim Shaheen Al Sulaiti highlighted that this marks the second occasion Qatar is hosting these finals, an event that simultaneously aids shooters in their preparation for the World Championship slated for November. Furthermore, this competition offers the initial 36 qualifying spots for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, featuring a total of 144 athletes representing 133 nations, including 16 local shooters from Qatar.
In a first for these finals, the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system will be utilized to enhance decision-making accuracy and fairness. Over 60 top international referees, alongside a proficient Qatari team, will oversee the matches. ISSF President Luciano Rossi commended Qatar’s impressive infrastructure and advanced facilities, emphasizing Doha's capability to host major international sporting events at the highest caliber.
This championship presents a vital opportunity for Qatari shooters to gather crucial experience leading up to the 2025 World Championship. Under the mentorship of new coaches, athletes are set on refining their skills to elevate their chances of qualifying for the Olympics. The event not only reinforces Qatar's stature as a premier host for international shooting competitions but also supports local shooters in achieving greater heights in their performance.
