Attention Ottawa motorists: prepare for increased travel time as lane closures on Highway 417 begin this Monday. These closures are part of the Rapid Bridge Replacement project aimed at enhancing crucial infrastructure along this vital route.
Kiewit Dufferin Midtown Partnership (KDMP) is undertaking the construction under the supervision of the Ontario Ministry of Transportation. The rightmost eastbound lane will be shut down between Carling Avenue and the Rochester Avenue off-ramp, impacting traffic flow.
In addition, expect sporadic lane and ramp closures in both eastbound and westbound directions between Island Park Drive and Kent Street. As staged construction zones are implemented, drivers may experience further delays, particularly during peak commuting hours.
The work is set to continue until late summer, focusing on multiple upgrades including the replacement of the noise barrier wall along the highway. Planned enhancements also encompass street repairs, drainage improvements, electrical updates, and resurfacing of retaining walls.
Initiated in 2021, this project is a component of a comprehensive effort to replace aging overpasses along the Queensway, a key transportation corridor for Ottawa. According to officials, these upgrades are critical for enhancing road safety, traffic flow, and long-term infrastructure reliability.
Drivers are urged to plan their journeys, allow extra time, and seek alternate routes when possible. Effective traffic management measures and clear signage will guide motorists safely through the construction zones.
