Actor Kiefer Sutherland, whose career has spanned more than four decades, is exploring a new side of his talent in the heartwarming Christmas movie Tinsel Town. In the film, Sutherland plays Bradley Mack, a once-famous Hollywood actor whose star has faded. Known for being difficult and temperamental, Mack finds his career dwindling after finishing the seventh installment of his action movie franchise. With opportunities scarce, he reluctantly accepts a role in a stage production—but instead of London's prestigious West End, he ends up in a small town's traditional Christmas pantomime.
The film gives Sutherland a chance to showcase his singing and dancing abilities, alongside a wide range of emotions, as Mack forms meaningful connections with his eccentric co-stars and reconnects with his estranged young daughter. Speaking at the London premiere, Sutherland described his role as "heartwarming," noting how the character evolves from a flawed individual into a better version of himself through the spirit of Christmas and family. "I've never done a song and dance number before, so that was a real challenge for me and very exciting," Sutherland said. "After 40 years in this profession, being able to try new things makes me really grateful."
Tinsel Town also features Rebel Wilson in the role of Jill, the pantomime’s choreographer, and introduces Theodora Williams, daughter of pop star Robbie Williams and actress Ayda Field, in her acting debut as Jill’s daughter, Cara. Williams shared her experience adapting to a Yorkshire accent for the role, explaining that she focused on staying in the moment rather than worrying about perfect pronunciation, which helped her performance feel natural and genuine.
Directed by Chris Foggin, the film is designed to appeal to audiences of all ages, celebrating the joy and warmth of British pantomime tradition. It also stars Katherine Ryan as Bradley Mack's agent and Derek Jacobi as Albert, a devoted veteran of theatre. Actress Maria Friedman, who plays a member of the pantomime troupe, emphasized that the movie celebrates "Britishness" and kindness, adding, "It’s got a big, warm heart. My goodness, don’t we need that right now."
Tinsel Town will release in select US theatres and digital platforms on Friday, with its UK debut on Sky Cinema scheduled for December 5. The film highlights not only the magic of Christmas and the charm of British theatre but also Sutherland’s ability to take on new challenges, offering fans a fresh and heartfelt cinematic experience.
